Drawing Basics

How to draw a mans face

Use any type pencil or marker you feel comfortable with in drawing. There are no rules to what you should use for sketching if you are a beginner. Don’t forget the one and only rule to learn how to draw is simply this: you learn to draw by drawing. A popular pencil to use for comfort when holding and quality is the Ticonderoga triangled pencil First, sketch an oval shape the size you want the man’s face to be, or a bit smaller. Next, draw a line divide it in half horizontally (1), then divide that space in half (2) and that space again in half (3). Using the notches on the top line, add two small ovals for
the eyes. On the middle line, widen the notches to become nostrils, and on the bottom line, sketch a pair of lips between the guideline notches.
Also, make a notch halfway between the top of the head and the eye-line. This will be the hairline. You can now erase the guidelines you drew and begin to fill in details. Remember that your first attempts at drawing may look very rough! Don’t be afraid to test and play with your sketching. Find pictures of men from men’s magazines and cut them out – to study the different shapes and features of mens faces. Practice sketching whenever you can by carrying a handy size blank tablet and a favorite pencil to draw with.
