What to Paint? ~~ What to Draw? --
by S. Pimental Where to start? Here's one great way to find inspiration for your next great art project! Use advertisements of any type in any kind of magazine or newspapers. Give your creative senses a chance at this experiment: Look at pictures in the ad you see in a - different way- see what you can see that no one else does. Do you see something else going on the picture? Look at the color combinations and discover how things fit and seem to flow. This way of looking and dissecting an image can result in creating something NEW in your mind. Take this "new image' you just created in your imagination and take it further. Read on to understand this concept as I once found an interesting ad in a magazine that caught my eye: Once, in a magazine I saw a picture of an old woman looking the window. She was leaning out the window sill. She had her elbow up and one hand under her chin. She looked sad and lonely. I saw something in that picture: I used this image (or pose) as inspiration for an acrylic painting I created " Waiting for Halloween". The pose was already there, as well as the face and the surroundings. I redrew her with a witch hat and blowing fall leaves all around her. So, try to think outside the box and the advertisement page. |
